CHRISTMAS WITH PLENTY OF RHYTHM

Christmas is surely one of the most eagerly awaited big dates of the year and coinciding with the holidays and big family gatherings, the Mas i Mas Group has prepared a very special programme for each of its venues in Barcelona. The aim is to provide a more tempting, alternative soundtrack to the celebrations. Welcome to the party!

Christmas will officially begin at the Jamboree on 22/12, with Ignasi Terraza Trio & Adrian Cunningham presenting their show “Around the Christmas Tree”. This time, alongside the iconic Barcelona pianist and his usual companions will be the Australian saxophonist Adrian Cunningham, who has performed with jazz legends like Wycliffe Gordon and Wynton Marsalis. And on 23/12, the Catalan singer Mar Vilaseca, who recently graduated from the Juilliard School in New York and has worked with important artists like Emmet Cohen, will join the party. Both days there will be two sessions (7pm and 8.30pm) and the repertoire, in quartet and quintet formats, will consist of Christmas and other traditional songs performed in jazz, blues and even gospel styles, as well as ballads and their own songs loaded with swing. Special dinner and concert packages are available.

The temperature will continue to rise in the legendary Plaça Reial club basement with two concerts by the Barcelona Big Blues Band under the title “Rock-A-Bell Christmas”, featuring top-class guests. On 24/12, the large-format group led by double bassist Ivan Kovacevic will welcome singer Agustí Burriel to the stage and on 25/12 it is the turn of Barcelona soul diva Ster Wax. Both days there will be two sets (7 and 8.30pm) and a special dinner and concert package will be offered for everyone who wants to get the most out of the musical experience.

The Tarantos doesn’t want to be left out of the party, and on 22/12 at 10.30pm the tablao is being taken over by the show “Zambomba Flamenca Camino a Belén”. The aim is to share flamenco carols and folk songs through dance, performance, guitar and percussion or simply by scraping a spoon against a bottle of anise liqueur. It’s a night intended for all the family with one or two surprises that will make an impression on everyone. A special dinner and concert package will be offered, and you can accompany the evening with a glass of Tío Pepe fino sherry. Meanwhile, the Jamboree Dance Club will join in the Christmas celebrations by opening its doors at midnight on 24/12, keeping us dancing until dawn to the rhythms laid down by the guest DJ.

Electronic music will have a very prominent presence on the night of 24/12 thanks to the special programme at the Moog. In the main club we will celebrate Christmas, or rather anti-Christmas, with the session offered by disc jockeys Gus Van Sound + Rubén Seoane under the slogan “Hard Navidark“. If you don’t celebrate Christmas, or want to do it in an alternative way, with darkness, sound and dance, this is the night for you. And, in the VillaRosa club, you can enjoy a crazy party with rhythms from the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s from DJ LaBorrachaDominguez under the slogan “Funky F***g Christmas”. To get things warmed up, we will prepare two Spotify playlists with the same names as the parties.

This year, which is drawing to an end, has a very special meaning for the Mas i Mas Group because for the first time Jamboree 3 forms part of our Christmas programme. On 23/12 at 7 and 8.30pm the singer Clarence Bekker will take to the stage of this small cultural venue to offer his “Christmas Concert” in the company of two guests with plenty of personality: the singers Alba Pérez and Alex Dee. More than a concert, this is an exciting musical journey (sponsored by the TRESC cultural) where they will perform great gospel songs and Christmas classics with a soulful feel. And on 25/12 at 7pm it will be the turn of the Jammin’ Cat jam session, the perfect place to share live music and dance like there’s no tomorrow, as well as meeting artists from all over world up close. A special dinner-and-show package will be offered on both days.
