Dion Hoorn Quartet – GMF BARCELONA JAZZ WORKSHOP & FESTIVAL
MASiMAS Festival 2026 · Global Music Foundation
Dion Hoorn alto saxophone · Bruce Barth piano and keyboards · Masa Kamaguchi bass · Stephen Keogh drums
The MASiMAS Festival 2026 presents the Dion Hoorn Quartet, a project framed within the Global Music Foundation (GMF) that showcases one of the most promising young voices in contemporary European jazz. The project combines a solid foundation in classic jazz with influences from blues and Detroit soul, articulated through a contemporary sensibility that engages with tradition without losing freshness or personality.
Born in 2004, Dion Hoorn is a Dutch alto saxophonist, flutist, and double bassist, currently in his final year of the jazz saxophone program at the Prince Claus Conservatory. Despite his youth, he has already developed an impressive trajectory, sharing the stage with internationally renowned musicians and participating in top-level orchestral projects. His multidisciplinary training and experience across diverse musical contexts are reflected in a sound that is solid, flexible, and attentive to collective interaction.
For this occasion, Hoorn leads a high-level quartet with Bruce Barth on piano and keyboards, Masa Kamaguchi on double bass, and Stephen Keogh on drums. The concert is conceived as a space for shared exploration, where the repertoire serves as a starting point for dialogue, listening, and building a common sound, fully in line with the educational and artistic values of the GMF project.
Why you shouldn’t miss it: the Dion Hoorn Quartet offers a unique opportunity to hear a new generation of musicians in the midst of their artistic development, within the GMF framework, presenting a performance that combines maturity, energy, and respect for the legacy of live jazz.
The Global Music Foundation presents the GMF Barcelona Jazz Workshop 2026, a musical celebration combining jazz, blues, and Latin music in concerts, workshops, and late-night sessions with world-class artists.
