The MASiMAS Festival 2026 presents Edu Ribeiro Trio, one of the most solid and distinctive formations in contemporary Brazilian jazz. Led by Edu Ribeiro, a five-time Grammy-winning drummer and a key figure in today’s scene, the trio offers a language that blends jazz sophistication with Brazilian roots, delivering a deeply organic sound with a clear narrative vocation.
The project revolves around News, the trio’s latest album, conceived for the classic jazz lineup of guitar, double bass, and drums, reinterpreted here under the drummer’s leadership. Accompanied by Vinicius Gomes on guitar and Samuel Passos on double bass, Ribeiro presents a repertoire where composition and performance converse through a contemporary Brazilian sensibility, without losing openness or creative risk. The pieces combine lyricism, groove, and ample space for collective interaction.
On this album, Ribeiro shares the authorship of the compositions with musicians who have been pivotal in his artistic journey, reflecting on the vital meaning of the repertoire. “I wanted to record songs that have been part of my life, songs I have played many times in different countries directly with their composers, here redesigned from a new perspective that represents the moment I am living,” explains the drummer during the album presentation. The concert at the Jamboree is thus conceived as a sonic snapshot of the trio’s current creative moment—honest, open, and deeply communicative.
Why you shouldn’t miss it: because this trio doesn’t aim to dazzle with artifices, but to captivate through pulse, listening, and emotion, offering contemporary Brazilian jazz that is elegant, authentic, and led by one of the great drummers of our time.
