The MASiMAS Festival 2026 presents Bass Monkeys, a musical collective that reinterprets the tradition of Sicilian wind bands through a contemporary and radically energetic lens. Their approach draws on the popular legacy of southern Italy and projects it into the present, combining acoustic sounds with an intense stage presence and a live performance conceived as a physical, collective experience.
Bass Monkeys works with the imagery of traditional brass bands, transferring their rhythms, timbres, and dynamics to a modern context where repetition, electronics, and festive drive coexist. The result is a hybrid language that preserves the communal and ceremonial character of Sicilian folk music while recontextualizing it with expansive sonic force and a distinctly contemporary attitude.
On the Jamboree stage, the group offers a high-intensity concert where groove, rhythmic energy, and constant musical dialogue create a continuous flow that invites movement and audience participation. More than a historical reinterpretation, Bass Monkeys presents a living celebration of tradition as a transforming entity, capable of connecting past and present without losing its identity.
Why you shouldn’t miss it: because it’s a rare opportunity to experience a centuries-old tradition through the body and energy of live performance, in an explosive concert where Sicilian folk music is reinvented as a contemporary, contagious experience.
