Mas i Mas Festival 2022
We’re starting work on the next Mas i Mas Festival!
The Mas i Mas Festival has filled Barcelona’s August nights with live music: everything from jazz to electronica, including flamenco, soul, rap, hip hop, trap, blues and Cuban and Caribbean sounds.
We’ve enjoyed concerts on big, iconic stages in Barcelona, but we have also delighted in the small format, at venues like the Jamboree, Los Tarantos and the Moog.
The Mas i Mas venues offer live music 365 days a year.

MAS I MAS AT THE cOLISEUM
The Festival opened at the Coliseum Theatre with a vibrant concert by La Sra. Tomasa & El Colectivo, on stage together for the first time, and Steffen Morrison, one of the great voices in soul today.
The closing event, also at Coliseum, was a double concert co-produced with the Taller de Músics. The first part featured Chano Domínguez and the Taller de Músics Ensemble and, in the second, Chicuelo premiered his new project, Caminos, in the company of dancer Karen Lugo, cellist Martín Meléndez and drummer David Gómez.

Performers at the Jamboree included: Seamus Blake, Jorge Rossy, Ignasi Terraza and Gisele Jackson. The Plaça Reial cellar club was also a place to discover jazz, soul, funk and blues with young talents from Spain and around the world, including Simon Moullier, Curos, Aviv Noam, Las de Barcelona and Gregory Hollis. It also offered the chance to listen to musicians with long, prolific careers behind them, such as Jesús Prieto “Pitti”, Anders Bergcrantz, Albert Bover, Adrian Cunningham and Ronald Baker.
MAS I MAS AT LOS TARANTOS - keep it reial
As the Jamboree’s nightclub – Jamboree Dance Club – is closed (for the moment) due to COVID restrictions, we revived its urban spirit with the “Keep it Reial” concert series.
The great and the good of r&b, trap, hip hop, Afrobeat, soul, and urban music in general shook the foundations of the Plaça Reial, including Kyne, Juicy Bae, Indee and Kween Cortes. There were also performers from the Latin American continent, or rather from the most Latin American side of Barcelona, in a cycle called Latineo: Gurumanche, El León y sus Secuaces, and others.

Los TARANTOS
At Los Tarantos we had the chance to enjoy the dancer Olga Llorente, prizewinner at the Cante de las Minas International Festival in 2019, and also Rebeca Monasterio, who only has to step on stage to filling the room with the flamenco spirit of duende. The cantaora Anna Colom presented her new project “Cayana“, while the cantaor Raúl Leiva performed accompanied by the tocaor Sócrates Mastrodimos, one of the great guitarists of the new flamenco generations. We also began a new concert format called Late Flamenco, where we welcomed acts who go beyond flamenco in the strictest sense with an approach somewhere between non-traditional flamenco that still respects the essence of the genre, world music, and singer-songwriter styles. In these shows, we brought together a series of young talents: Laura Marchal, Rafael Fernández, Lidia Mora & Ruselito and Marc Suarez.
Meanwhile, the Moog was also closed due to the COVID-19 restrictions drawn up by the Government of Catalonia.
The most celebrated stage at the Festival was the Plaça Reial, with 25 open-air concerts. The programme included all kinds of musical styles, from jazz to Catalan rumba, not forgetting soul, blues, r&b, singer-songwriter music, flamenco, world music and many, many more. We enjoyed great artists like Perico Sambeat, Gary Willis, Gergo Borlai, Llibert Fortuny, Susana Sheiman, Queralt Lahoz, Paula Peso and Ashé Quartet. This year there were also some of the disc jockeys who usually appear in the Moog: Olmos, Dj Purpur, Rubén Seoane, Uroz and 6TMA.
